Croeso i Brythonicana cyntaf 2014! Ymddiheuriadau am yr oedi ers yr un diweddaraf, cofiwch mai cyfrwng guerilla ydi hwn! Pwy gwell i groesawy goleuni haul y Gwanwyn yn ol? Y dyn ei hun, Mr Gareth Bonello, aka The Gentle Good. Davey Graham Cymraeg? Bert Jansch Caerdydd? John Fahey Celtaidd? Pah! Peidiwch a bo’n wirion… hen bryd i ni ddehongli a derbyn ein artistiaid fel yr ydynt. Wrth gwrs, mae ysbrydoliaethau ymhobman ac anodd yw peidio a gwneud cymhariaethau, ond… wrth anwybyddu’r ‘fframwaith cymhariaethol’ gwelwn dalent gwreiddiol go iawn. Ers ddyddiau Anhrefn yn Ewrop a ton ‘Cool Cymru’ y 90’au, rydym yn gweld mwy a mwy o artistiaid o Gymru yn llwyddo dros y ffin, ac yn rhyngwladol, yn ogystal ac adref. Mae The Gentle Good yn un o’r rhai sydd ar flaen y gad yma. Cyn bo hir (roi fet arni!) bydd adran gerdd Prifysgol Cymru yn gwneud astudiaethau ar waith y gwr hwn! Wedi llwyddiant ysgubol yr albwm ‘Tethered for the Storm’ (Gwymon 2011) dyma ni albwm newydd – ‘Y Bardd Anfarwol’ (Bubblewrap 2012), albwm gysyniadol yn cyfuno dau ddiwylliant mor bell i ffwrdd, eto… mor agos. Mwynhewch Brythonicana ar ei newydd wedd!

Welcome to the 1st Brythonicana of 2014! Also, the 1st in video format. Bilingual too! Apologies for the delay since the last one, this is voluntary / guerilla media after all! (have I coined a new term here – ‘Voluntilla Media’?!). As we welcome the light of Spring and look forward to the warmth of Summer, who better than Mr Gareth Bonello, aka The Gentle Good, to keep us company. The Welsh Davey Graham? The Cardiff Bert Jansch? The Cetlic John Fahey? Pah! It’s time for us to appreciate and accept the fact that we have world class music artists in Wales who stand on their own two feet. OK, evergreen influences guide us in all aspects of life and it’s hard not to make comparisons, but take away the ‘comparison framework’ what we really see is raw talent. Since the European post-punk Anrhefn days and the wave of ‘Cool Cymru’ bands in the 90’s… today, we see more and more Welsh artists succeeding beyond Offa’s Dyke, as well as on home turf, and that’s a pretty cool thing considering the current post post-modern digital music industry climate that we’re in. The Gentle Good seems to be at the forefront of this new wave of Welsh artists going beyond the comfort zone. Gazing into the Brythonicana crystal ball… I see University students writing essays on this guy’s work! After the success of the 20011 album ‘Tethered for the Storm’ (Gwymon 2012) we now have his latest release – ‘Y Bardd Anfarwol’ (The Immortal Bard), a concept album merging two cultures so far apart, yet so close.
